Fall Kids Afterschool Classes
Our nurturing teachers, who specialize in sparking a passion for creative expression in children, know how to make our classes special by creating an atmosphere of learning, fun, and friendship. Focusing on wheel throwing or handbuilding, students will craft bowls, plates, cups, vases as well as amazing creatures, sculptures, and more creative fun.
Wheel students are taught the fundamentals of wedging, centering, lifting, trimming and glazing on the pottery wheel. They will also learn the basics of handbuilding: pinching, coiling, and slab building.
Handbuilding students will learn the basics of handbuilding: pinching, coiling, and slab building.
Your child will glaze work throughout the semester, but due to the firing process, some pottery will not be ready to glaze by the last class. If your child misses a class and/or will not be able to glaze all of their pottery pieces, we will have your child choose a single color and then we will finish glazing their work.
We will call or email to notify you when all of your child’s work is ready for pickup (typically 2-3 weeks after the last class). If pottery is not picked up within 30 days of notification, we will donate your child’s pottery, due to lack of space.
We offer school pick up at select schools at school dismissal: PS29, PS261, PS32, PS58, Brooklyn New School, Mary McDowell (Bergan St), Brooklyn Heights Montessori School, & Success Academy Cobble Hill. Minimum of three children to pick up from one school. Register for school pick up with your after school program registration.

Please send us an email with your child’s school pickup details and we can verify if pickup is possible or if we need more kids to enroll from your school.

Wheel throwing takes a lot of strength and focus! Over time we have found that children under the age of 9 have difficulty absorbing all instruction and the necessary cleaning protocols. Also, often children under the age of 9 have physical difficulty operating the wheel when they’re too small.

Wheel classes can be made up in a similar aged class (Mon, Fri are teens; Tues, Wed, Thurs are 9-12 year olds). Unfortunately we only have one handbuilding class so no makeups are possible for that class.
